Our calculators and guides give general information and planning estimates. They aren't engineering, building code, safety or professional advice, and they may not fit your project. We haven't seen your site or structure.
Check before you build or buy
Confirm measurements on site. Building codes vary by location, so check the rules your local building department has adopted. Follow product instructions, and use a licensed professional where the work or your local rules call for one.
Safety
Roof and structural work can seriously injure or kill. You're responsible for working safely, or for hiring someone who can.
Accuracy
We work hard to keep pages accurate and show the date each guide was last updated, but we can't guarantee every page is complete or current. If you find an error, please tell us.

We link to codes, agencies and manufacturers. A link isn't an endorsement unless we say so. We don't currently use affiliate links; see how we make money.
Acceptable use
